Solving Quadratic Equations using Quadratic Formula

   If  $a{x}^2+bx+c$ = 0, then $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-b}\pm \sqrt{b^2-\mathrm{4ac}}}{\mathrm{2a}}$

So, if  $x^2+2x-8$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(2)\pm \sqrt{{(2)}^2-(4)(1)(-8)}}{(2)(1)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-2}\pm \sqrt{4+32}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-2}\pm \sqrt{36}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-2}\pm 6}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{4}{2}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{-8}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $2$ or,  $x$ =  $-4$
