Solving Quadratic Equations using Quadratic Formula

   If  $a{x}^2+bx+c$ = 0, then $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-b}\pm \sqrt{b^2-\mathrm{4ac}}}{\mathrm{2a}}$

So, if  $x^2+4x-12$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(4)\pm \sqrt{{(4)}^2-(4)(1)(-12)}}{(2)(1)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-4}\pm \sqrt{16+48}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-4}\pm \sqrt{64}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-4}\pm 8}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{4}{2}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{-12}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $2$ or,  $x$ =  $-6$
