Solving Quadratic Equations using Quadratic Formula

   If  $a{x}^2+bx+c$ = 0, then $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{-b}\pm \sqrt{b^2-\mathrm{4ac}}}{\mathrm{2a}}$

So, if  $x^2-11x-12$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(-11)\pm \sqrt{{(\mathrm{-11})}^2-(4)(1)(-12)}}{(2)(1)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{11}\pm \sqrt{121+48}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{11}\pm \sqrt{169}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{11}\pm 13}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{24}{2}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{-2}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $12$ or,  $x$ =  $-1$
