So, if  $x^2-12x+20$ = 0, then

     $x$ =  $\frac{-(-12)\pm \sqrt{{(\mathrm{-12})}^2-(4)(1)(20)}}{(2)(1)}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{12}\pm \sqrt{144-80}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{12}\pm \sqrt{64}}{2}$

or, $x$ =  $\frac{\mathrm{12}\pm 8}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $\frac{20}{2}$ or,  $x$ =  $\frac{4}{2}$

or,  $x$ =  $10$ or,  $x$ =  $2$
